FUNCORE is no longer just a description of local band False Crack, but an emerging attitude towards the music scene.
The term, coined by Nic, drummer of False Crack, eventually became the slogan of the band. FUNCORE focuses on just having a good ol’ fun time. No divas and definitely no drama.
Heavily influenced by 1980’s hardcore bands along with local punk bands, False Crack delivers profound lyrics and sound that covers everything and anything. Topics including the love for peanut butter jelly sandwiches to zombies merely scratch the surface of False Crack’s songs.
Every member of this band brings something to the table. Whether its Psycohol’s, the singer, solid composure of a robot during the song, “Android;” Black Freeman, also known as Titty, “slappin’ dat bass,” Chris Shot, shredding on the guitar with enthusiasm,;or Nic Sticcs, adding funny comments behind the drums, False Crack’s shows is definitely not a show to miss.
After playing more shows with Big Island band Old Habits Die Hard, a friendship blossomed between False Crack and Puna Punk bands. A spilt CD is being talked about with OHDH. But False Crack did not stop planting its seeds just there: there’s talk about a mainland tour in July 2010 and expect a show on the Big Island in December.
This FUNCORE craze not only has Mike Park of Skankin’ Pickle shouting, “FUNCORE! FUNCORE!” but has caused such an effect on everyone in the local music scene. Over fifteen people are in the process of getting or already have FUNCORE tattoos. False Crack also made shirts with their design focusing on FUNCORE. They want everyone to have a good time without spoiling anyone else’s fun.

At the shows they crack jokes with each other, which really shows their chemistry as a band, and you can see that on-stage. Every member is filled with energy and they are all enthusiastic which is hard to come by nowadays.
The audience’s reaction when False Crack plays is priceless. The connection between the band and the audience is so intense. They are actually excited to see the band play and when the drums start going, the audience gets nuts boo. When False Crack is pau hanas, everyone leaves.
Despite the rising popularity of False Crack that would cause some diva status, they are modest and quick to acknowledge those who have influenced them—local bands, Mistermeaner, CRONSEEDZ, Lose Money, Unit 101, and Backwash.
False Crack is chop suey, it is the epitome of diversity. With their DIY attitude they cover different genres such as punk, ska, pop punk, a little bit of everything. Nobody is left out; everyone is included. False Crack knocks down stereotypical barriers and truly expresses the real way to have fun: just hanging out with friends and listening to good music.
If you go to a False Crack show, which you will, you will end up partying the FUNCORE way.
