In March 2008, we asked people whether they’d ever visited a store because of an ad or article they saw in the zine. These are some of the responses we received.

Hi Katie,

When i visited Oahu last August the first thing i did was to look for a local entertainment and culture mag. The 808 Scene Zine was that mag. Through it i found out about Next Door, Rock Star Tattoo and Piercing and a bunch of other businesses, bands and artists representing the best of Oahu's creative culture. The 808 Scene Zine was a great asset for me coming from the mainland. It gave me the scoop on what's really happening on the island and turned me on to some wonderful places where i met some wonderful, talented people.

I usually stop by Coconut Grove just to grab a free zine. Sometimes I stick around and buy guitar strings or the occasional parts & pieces.

I read every issue of the Zine religiously, cover to cover, and I am very aware of all the sponsors in it. I am honestly much more inclined to give my business to someone who supports the local scene than someone who doesn't.

Hi Katie,

I used to live in Makiki, and could never remember the name of the Cafe, since it had changed since then. Thanks to the Zine, it's now locked and loaded in my memory: Sure Shot Cafe!

The second one is, although I have shopped there for years, and knew they were reasonable I had not been aware of Easy Music's meet or beat internet prices policy until I read it in the Zine!

Word!

You know I read the Zine and I mentioned what's in the Zine during my show...so yes, what I read in the Zine will determine what I will be doing for the week. I did an interview with Mish of the CBC so I will be going to see the show [written about in the Feb 2008 issue] at the Arts at Marks Garage next weekend. You know many people I know read the zine and attend functions that they read.
