The first installment! 808scenezine asked me to do an article similar to what we do on www.atypicalliving.com. I said sure so here it goes. Don't expect some Lee Cataluna steeze (not yet anyways).
March was loaded with dope Hawai'i products. KICKS/HI owned March with a shoe with Sig Zane and Converse, another with Vans, New Era collabs with Sig Zane and Flip the bird, and launched their cut and sew line. In4mation also launched their cut and sew line while Flip the Bird dropped their spring line of shirts and will be releasing shoes with Run Athletics shortly. Keep an eye out in April for the spring line and a brand new hat design from FITTED.
Last month was phenominal(thanks Wedding Crashers) for hiphop. Audible Lab Rats released their newest album "Project Philanthropy", Thatguyshaun of Safeway Selekt dropped his EP "on His way.."(Buy one and help him get to P.I.), and DJ Revise released 3 mixtapes entitled Sound Like No Other Vol.1 &2 and Mad Stamina. Icon the Mic King, Yarah Bravo, Creature, and Preacherman killed the 808scenezine hiphop exchange. Talib Kweli did impromptu shows at E&O and the Living Room. And by the time this goes to press Scarub from the Living Legends crew will have killed Next Door. GenuineHI also held a dope OnThe1:Flux featuring Audible Lab Rats, Spacifics, Creed, and Rhyme Da Old Man.
Angry Woebots returned to KICKS/HI with his latest show "Woe is me". He also released his first design from his Army of Snipers line at the show. He's leaving Hawai'i for another round of art shows on the mainand.
April is going to be busy. Lightsleepers will be celebrating a decade of underground hiphop with Inertia 4 on April 14 at UH Manoa. Inertia 4 will be the beginning of the 3 Kings B-Boy battle where winners of Inertia get a spot in the finals for Mighty4 Hawaii where winner goes to the national Might4 finals. Live art by Evil Villains and open mic and turntables. Kavet the Catalyst will also be having another installment of Trip The Lights: BEATROOT 4 on the 27th.
Reel Big Fish skanking April 5. Mos Def rocking April 12. Friday the 13th is OnThe1: Bachi featuring Bless'dchil', Tempo Valley, Soul Pacific, Nomasterbacks, and Kavet the Catalyst and Million Billion and free RedBulls. Last time I drank 6. No wings. Kawaii Kon also returns in April 27th-29th at the Convention Center( i dont really care but i wanna make fun of the cosplay people).
